Ucross Foundation Residency

My residency at Wyoming's Ucross Foundation in 2010 provided the space, the time, and the closeness to the land to allow me to continue on my journey of translation.

Women pioneers traveled to the West during the mid-1800s, and left to us a legacy of documents from letters and journals to provision lists, maps, and photographs. My installation at Ucross flowed from my research, which revealed the essential qualities of their lives-the wisdom, gravitas, courage, and sparkle--all of which informed the narrative of my work there.

Through fishing line, hole-punched paper fragments, torn paper strips, paper squares and rectangles I've interpreted their will, flexibility, fragility, and joy-the filaments and cycles of their lives, including the experience of their journey to the West.
