The repository of our experiences is rich, but sometimes we get entangled in it. To work our way out of complexity we need a compass, a way of orienting ourselves. Our sense of place arises through the call and response between people, places, and histories. Among the din of conversations in a restaurant, our ears pick out one to overhear.
To push out of the tangled mass into places we haven't been before, we need to work its strands into a map, a set of navigable points. Constellations are patterns we impose on the randomness of stars.
