The circles in this piece are both restricting and open, like the Biblical “eye of the needle.” Like difficult decisions and conflicts, they represent an almost impossible passage to vast, profound possibilities. The feeling is both daunting and hopeful.
The plexi has been printed with images from old life drawings and landscapes, which gives them a sense of history and place. They don’t “float” but rather are suspended from precarious anchors. The act of adjusting the tentative line in space is itself a part of the process of confronting uncertainty: preparing for and accommodating unexpected events, on our way through.
